What an eventful afternoon!  First we worked in groups to put together our solar powered Mars rovers.  This was interesting as we can across many obstacles. We had to really think like scientists to overcome them.  I think we got them all working for at least a few minutes.  We learned that metallic tape works best to reconnect wires to the motor. We also learned that they don't go anywhere if they are in a shadow or if there is a cloud over the sun.  IF we had more time we would write a letter to the makers and help them build a more reliable vehicle. We have lots of ideas.

Our last dance class was so much fun!  We learned a new dance to the Footloose song.  We really got our groove on :)

Officially the first day of summer!  Yahoo!
Image result for 4 days of school left

This afternoon was a little weird as we were getting back to the school at 12:30. We ate lunch in the hub and then had a short movement break outside before getting down to the brass tacks.  (Idiom)

We worked on completing our write-ups for science.  Some of us researched the moons of Mars.

In our read aloud, it got really exciting.  Ally won the election for the class president.  But what we learned is that Shay's mom isn't really nice to her.  Now we are beginning to learn a little more about her character.

In gym, we had two stations: two small games of soccer and playground. We got to rotate three times through each of these.

Tomorrow is our Field Trip to the Calgary Humane Society!  We had Zabrina share her powerpoint presentation with the class from her experience there a year and a half ago.  Thank you Zabby for sharing with us and getting us excited about our trip!

Our bus will leave the school at 9:00 am sharp so please arrive a school on time.  The program runs from 9:30 to 12:00 so we will arrive back at the school around 12:30.  Students are asked to bring a non-messy/drippy one hand snack for the trip as it will be a long morning.  Upon our return, we will have time to eat lunch and then they will continue with their regular afternoon routine with Mrs. Bowles.

We worked well on our Inquiry projects this morning and they are almost all ready to be shared this Thursday for our Celebration of Learning!

Grade 4 students have some homework for their Health class from today.  There is a white and a blue sheet to look for in their backpacks and the assignments are due on Wednesday which will be our last lesson. I  would like to commend the students for their manners and openness during this topic of study.  Please continue to talk with your children at home to keep communication lines open!

This afternoon was "A Science Marathon" according to Miller. We are finishing up our projects in preparation for the Celebration of Learning. We are connecting the designing to the writing and the writing to the designing.

We continued to read Fish in a Tree.  We are bound and determined to finish it by next Monday.  We are on page 198 and there are 262 pages in the book. On Friday we decided that we need to read 17 pages a day to finish on Monday. I wonder if that is the same?  Please do the math to find out.

Where did our day go?  This afternoon we worked on science to start with. We paper mached the moons of Mars. You will get to see what we will do with them on our celebration of learning next Thursday evening.  We have a lot to show you so be prepared to be amazed!

We also are putting the finishing touches on our wind turbines. These will be completed tomorrow.

In math, we were introduced to perimeter. We know that it is the distance around the outside of an shape.  We looked at measuring some shapes.  Then we tried to think about how we would be able to measure around a circle, an oval?  We will have to put our mathematical thinking to the test and find some strategies for that.

We continue to read a Fish in a Tree.  We really want to finish it before the end of school. Thanks to Andrea and Emily who worked on figuring out that if we read 3 -4 chapters a day (they are pretty short chapters) we will be done.

In gym, we worked on soccer skills. We played statues and dribblers and then got to play a game.

This morning we started off with the grade 3 students heading over to Mrs. Peterson's class and the grade 4's joining Mrs. Zwack in room 80.

The grade 3's worked on Daily 5 activities together for about an hour.

Att this time, the grade 4's met with Mrs. Zwack to begin our lessons on Human sexuality.  I was very impressed with the maturity and  open discussion about the sensitive subject.  Students have homework to discuss with a parent tonight and just need to bring back the bottom of the sheet tomorrow.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

This afternoon we were making up some crazy daily schedules. We we had to use a spinner to decide how long each activity took.  Some students got up at 7:00, eat breakfast, ride the bus to school, be at school, ride the bus home, do homework, go to soccer and go to bed.  With the luck of the spinner some students were in bed by 5:20 pm.
We also started reading a book about time.  This is a crazy book that looks at minutes, hours, days, weeks, and years.  Ask us about some of the facts that we learned.

In science, we are finishing up our wind turbines. Some students met more obstacles than others.  We have learned from each other's trials and successes.  We will be writing up our findings to share with everyone at the Celebration of Learning.

We continue to read  Fish in a Tree.  We really hope to finish before the end of the year.
